Through calls for submissions and curatorial projects, The Centre for Art Tapes promotes the understanding and exploration of media arts. The Centre offers a diverse program of public screenings, artist presentations, performances, audio exhibitions and multi-media installations. This ecompasses the work of local, regional, national and international artists.
Scholarships are awarded annually for first-time video, audio, or new media artists. Successful applicants are determined by a rotating peer selection committee. This award covers the basic costs of training and equipment rental, and provides mentorship, an honorarium upon completion and a premier event for the completed piece. Deadline for submissions is 5-p.m. Friday, April 29, 2011.

Once a year, an established Canadian media artist is selected to spend 3-4 weeks at the Centre for Art Tapes to produce and present their work, teach workshops and meet with the local community. Ongoing call for subimissions.
Artists and community groups are encouraged to propose and develop projects with the programming commitee. CFAT has co-produced events with CKDU-FM, Eyelevel gallery, the Khyber, Mi'kmaq Native Friendship Centre, Leave Out ViolencE, Dalhousie Art Gallery, Saint Mary's University Art Gallery, Mount Saint Vincent University Art Gallery, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University and many others.
This year, one artist will be selected to spend time in our Electronics Lab, working with mentors and participating in workshops to create new works. The Centre for Art Tapes is accepting submissions for our 2011-2012 Local Curatorial Residency. We are looking for proposals that offer an exciting and engaging media art presentation that is presented in a public setting within HRM. All electronic and new media genres will be considered. CFAT encourages proposals that critically engage with contemporary discourse of media arts. A catalogue with an essay written by the curator will accompany the curator’s presentation.
